home sweet home.

On a snowy day like today, a sweet treat like hot chocolate is the Hollyized drink of choice! While there are many hot chocolate mixes available, sometimes it is nice to slow down and cook up your own homemade version. This is really easy to make and you can customize your concoction of milk and chocolate with the type of milk and chocolate you select.

I must admit I was adventurous and walked to my neighborhood World Market to get out for a bit — they have a WIDE selection of chocolate to pick from! Here’s a picture of my snow adventure (yes, we really do get snow in Texas!):

Now, forget t-shirt time, it’s hot chocolate time! The possibilities are endless! 🙂

Need:
2 bars chocolate of your choice (I selected dark chocolate with pomegranate to get a slightly bitter yet rich, sweet flavor)
2 cups (half a carton) almond milk (you can use regular milk or soy milk)

Hollyized Steps:

Unwrap and break up your chocolate bars. (You can see I used three bars since I have the BIGGEST sweet tooth but most may find that overwhelmingly sweet.)

Then, put the chocolate bar chunks into a freezer Ziploc bag to avoid making a mess. Use the flat surface of a meat tenderizer to break up the chocolate chunks. Pound over a cutting board to keep your counters safe!

Heat the milk in a small pot on medium heat until it begins to bubble. This only takes about 7 minutes.

Pour the broken chocolate from the bag into a blender. Then add in the hot milk.

Blend, being careful since the hot liquid will try to ooze out the sides. I slightly vent the top of my blender while mixing to prevent any spillage.

Immediately serve and enjoy your fabulous drink with a good book! Sprinkle the top with some cinnamon, if you wish. See?! You get a customized coffeehouse-style drink in the comforts of home sweet home! 🙂
