review: mason pearson brush.

I had room in my budget last month and finally got a Mason Pearson hairbrush after eying them forever! My little sister has had hers for a few years and still raves about it. (She’s absolutely beautiful, so I was sold!)

For those that don’t know about these brushes, they are essentially the Rolls-Royce of hairbrushes in that they are handmade in England, last forever, and are a little pricey. The bristles are spaced so they massage your scalp and evenly distribute the oils in your hair to keep your mane maintained and healthy.

I got the Popular style in a size large. I’ve used mine for about a month now and LOVE it! My hair is thick and long, and tends to frizz in humid weather. Since using mine, my frizz has been minimal and I feel like it doesn’t pouf as much. I like that I can use my brush on both wet and dry hair — it works very well to detangle right out of the shower. (No pulling or breaking hair when detangling gets bonus points in my book!) The only drawback is that you can’t put heat on it, so continue using a round brush for blowdrying.

Some may think it is crazy to spend so much on a hairbrush, but when you consider it is something you will use everyday, and how much you spend at the salon getting a cut and color, it really isn’t too bad. You should always invest in yourself!

Before you get yours:

  1. Consider your hair type. They have several styles of brushes, so select the one that is best suited for your hair type in order to reap the benefits. If you get overwhelmed, there is a guide on the Mason Pearson site to help you find the right one.
  2. Think about your lifestyle. The brushes come in a variety of sizes ranging from junior to large. If you frequently travel for work, you may opt for the junior or pocket size to accommodate your toiletry bag. If you anticipate using your brush at home, I recommend getting the large size.
  3. Be conscious of where you make your purchase. I first ordered mine from Amazon since Nordstrom had them on backorder, but the one I received didn’t look like the ones I saw at the store. (Amazon’s customer service team was awesome helping me return it!) I was able to find the one I wanted in stock at Bluemercury.
