It is hard to believe that just one week ago, so many people lived normal lives. Their homes were stocked with batteries for flashlights, bottled water, and non-perishable food in case the weather from Hurricane Harvey took out the power with the heavy rains. They would be okay for a few days in the safety net of home with family members and pets…
The devistation of Hurricane Harvey and flooding is so immense. The news coverage continues to be heart breaking. It has been stressful worrying and trying to reach out to family members and friends that live in Houston and waiting on responses that everyone is safe. Some were lucky and just got trapped at home, and others had to be rescued because their homes were filled with water beyond recognition, and only escaped with a few items for the entire family in a backpack.
The one bright spot about this tragedy is the way so many people have come together to help perfect strangers. All ages, races, and backgrounds have united to help each other. It truly is touching. I spent an evening volunteering at a donation center this week and was brought to tears by the generosity of so many in my community.

- Donate Clean-Up Buckets: Project Unity is collecting clean-up bucket supplies (buckets, gloves, sponges, cleaning sprays) at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church.
- Donate Dog and Cat Food to the SPCA: The organization took in so many animals that were transferred from Corpus and Houston, and are beyond capacity. These sweet furry friends need to be loved just as much as people.
